Replacing a failed or obsolete condensing unit on existing pipework is common, and considerably cheaper than a full system, provided the pipework is the right size, clean and compatible with the new refrigerant. Supply lead times on cold and freezer room panels are commonly two to three weeks, and the build itself is usually a matter of days once everything is on site. Replacing a condensing unit on existing pipework is often a single day.
Do I need three-phase power?
It depends on the plant size. Smaller cold room units run on single-phase 220V, while larger freezer room and industrial plant generally needs 380V three-phase. Confirm what your supply can carry before the equipment is ordered, not after.
Can new refrigeration be connected to existing pipework?
Sometimes, but only after the pipework is checked for size, condition, cleanliness and compatibility with the new refrigerant. Reusing contaminated or undersized pipe is a common cause of early failure on an otherwise good installation.
Who handles the electrical connection?
The refrigeration company wires the plant and controls. The fixed supply from the distribution board is electrical work and normally needs a registered electrician, who should also issue the certificate for that portion.
What size cold room do I actually need?
It comes from your stock volume, delivery frequency and how the room is loaded, not from the floor area you have spare. Overshooting costs more to run; undershooting means you cannot get product through the door on a delivery day.
Is commissioning included in an installation quote?
It should be, and it is worth confirming. Commissioning covers pressure testing, evacuation, charging, control setup and running the system up to temperature. An installation that skips it is not finished.
Can equipment be installed while we keep trading?
