Insulation thickness

Floor construction

Defrost

Below zero, any moisture entering the room ends up as ice on the evaporator. Freezer plant therefore needs an active defrost cycle, usually electric, correctly timed and correctly terminated. Defrost is the most common source of trouble on freezer rooms and the part most worth getting right at specification.

Doors

Heated frames stop the door freezing shut. Heated vision panels stop them icing over. Both are standard on properly specified freezer rooms and both get value-engineered out of cheap quotes.

Plant Selection

Low-temperature plant works across a much wider pressure range than chilled plant, which makes compressor selection, oil management and defrost control more demanding. Build and Commissioning

1. Site visit, measurement and heat load calculation at the target temperature.
2. Specification of panel thickness, floor construction, door type and defrost arrangement.
3. Quotation with equipment, installation, electrical and commissioning separated.
4. Floor preparation, then panel assembly with joints sealed and the vapour barrier maintained.
5. Plant installation, insulated pipework, drain lines trace-heated where required.
6. Three-phase electrical connection by a registered electrician where the plant needs it.
7. Pressure test, evacuation, weighed charge, defrost and control programming.
8. Empty pull-down to setpoint, verification and handover.

The empty pull-down matters. Loading warm stock into a room that has not reached temperature extends the process considerably and puts the plant under load it was not sized for.
